Re: Generate certs in production

There are a few ways you could do this. The best option will depend on how your factory manufacturing and test process is going to work. Unfortunately we don't have ready to roll out examples of any of this, at the moment you'll have to assemble some parts on your own. We are in the planning stages ...

Re: What if Flash Encryption and Secure Boot goes wrong ??

Hi Kostas, Flash Encryption and Secure Boot are both enabled by burning efuses inside the ESP32 (not the flash). Efuses are write-once only, once an efuse bit is set to "1" it can't be set back to "0". If you erase the flash of an ESP32 with flash encryption and secure boot turned on, the only way t...

Re: ESP Thermal considerations

Hi eli_az, We don't have any published thermal resistance values, sorry. I've never heard of thermal problems with the ESP32 Thing development boards**, or any ESP32 development board for that matter (assuming reasonable ambient temps). There are ESP32 chips that run in high temperature environments...

Re: Eclipse CMake ESP-IDF

Hi arnoud, Sorry for the late reply. We just stumbled across this problem ourselves. What happens is this: Eclipse CDT searches the PATH (first Eclipse project path then environment variable PATH) for "cmake" to execute. Unfortunately it does not check if the "cmake" that it finds is an executable f...

Re: libsodium and hardware acceleration

Unfortunately not, right now libsodium use software implementations. Only mbedTLS can enable hardware acceleration (ESP32 can accelerate AES, SHA and some RSA/bignumber calculations). For ChaCha20 & Poly1305, there isn't any hardware support in the ESP32 that would accelerate these algorithms. They ...

Re: USB to Serial ESP bootloader issues

Hi SamD, If you can run esptool.py from the command line with the --trace option (ie "esptool.py --trace -p PORT flash_id") then you may get some clues (ie is any data getting read back from the ESP32 at all?) Historically, there have been a few issues with unusual timing of data sent/received when ...

Re: LLVM for Xtensa

The first question that came to my mind is, does this enable us (or get closer) to use the languages which target LLVM (e.g. Rust, Nim, Zig, etc)? For Rust specifically, would Espressif also host a fork of "rust-lang/rust" and "rust-lang/libc", as we go through the following steps (this comment eve...

Re: zlib on esp32

Nice work jubueche! Something else which may be of interest, it's not widely advertised but the ESP32 ROM contains a copy of the "miniz" library, which is a reduced footprint zlib-compatible implementation: https://github.com/espressif/esp-idf/blob/master/components/esp32/include/rom/miniz.h It does...

Re: git clone not getting everything

Hi twompark, These examples are not part of ESP-IDF v3.1, which is the current stable release version. If you check out the v3.2 release branch ( git checkout release/v3.2 ) then it has the http_server example but not https_server. To get both the https_server and http_server you will need to check ...

Re: ESP mbedTLS not detecting data drop

Hi Quentin, You're right that without some indication that the connection is closed (such as: the local wifi network interface goes down, an RST packet is received, or an ICMP port unreachable packet is received) then the LWIP TCP/IP stack will by default keep waiting for the connection to come back...
