Long story short: Using both will lead to impedance mismatches, which leads to Bad Stuff (tm). If you look at it with eyes not accustomed to seeing the deeper mysteries of RF magic, you'd say the antenna is just an unconnected trace. However, at 2.4GHz it actually is an active element, and having it in the signal path will distort the signal and lead to all kind of problems.

Hi, Mehul

You can keep both the external antenna as well as the pcb antenna, since it will cause the mismatch of impedance and the performance of RF will be bad. Since the power will decrease, and accordingly will decrease the signal strength of the WiFi and BLE.

Therefore the solution you proposed of keeping both antennas will possibly have poor performance than the PCB antenna(only) solution.

Thanks.
Alvin

We have some ESP32 Wrover B here but meant to get the Wover IB. I assume the only difference is that the model B is missing the Ipex connector and the O ohm jumper resistor needs to be moved from r15 to r14 correct?

Best:) :) :)
