ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 Flashing

Postby dodeca » Mon Aug 14, 2023 9:42 pm

I'm designing a PCB which future plans of mass producing it in the hundreds. It contains an ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 module and other components that will be used to power LEDs. Due to space and cost optimizations having a usb port on every board that is only used once to flash then never again is not ideal. Are there any "flashing boards" that have a usb and only require a few pins or pin holes on the board I'm designing?

When looking at page 28 of the datasheet(https://www.espressif.com/sites/default ... eet_en.pdf) it seems like pins 35 and 37, along with VDD and GND, are the only connections I need to flash through UART?

Also need to put ESP32-S3 into flash mode by disabling the chip (EN low) and making sure that when you enable the chip again (EN high) that BOOT is low (IO0 low). You can probably do this and make your UART connections with some test pads on a PCB and a spring-loaded connector for flashing.
