ov5640 sleep mode

Postby andmar » Sat Jan 27, 2024 8:56 am

Hi,
I am trying to take pictures with esp32 and an ov5640 camera module and go into deep sleep mode between pictures.
When using the sample code below with an ov2640 camera everything works well. The power consumption goes from ca. 2.5A when taking a picture to 0.006A when going into sleep mode. However, when using the same code with an ov5640 camera the power consumption stays at 0.100A when in sleep mode. I have tried different ov5640 cameras and different esp32 boards (Dev module, wrover, S3 wroom) and they all seem to suffer the same issue therefore I can rule out defective devices. I have also tried to to set the camera PWDN_GPIO_NUM to low or high during sleep mode by adding
digitalWrite(PWDN_GPIO_NUM , HIGH);
gpio_deep_sleep_hold_en();
gpio_hold_en(PWDN_GPIO_NUM );

before going to sleep mode, but it doesn't affect the power consumption. I would be very grateful if someone could share a solution for correctly setting an esp32 with a ov5640 to sleep mode.

Here the sample code

IMPORTANT!!!
- Select Board "AI Thinker ESP32-CAM"
- GPIO 0 must be connected to GND to upload a sketch
- After connecting GPIO 0 to GND, press the ESP32-CAM on-board RESET button to put your board in flashing mode
